Topic of the day-

“I cut it off: An introspective look at boundaries and personal changes to achieve healing”

We are all products of our environment to some extent. From the people to the food, the vernacular, and even the climate, who we are is largely dictated by our surroundings. We can choose whether we adapt or adopt certain ways of living and thinking in order to meet or go away from our highest selves. We can choose to learn more outside of what we were taught to believe and choose whether or not we want to even continue on the same path we were once on. Change is scary but freeing when it results in a positive outcome.
I think that almost everyone with cognitive reasoning skills has some ability to discern their strengths and weaknesses. The ability to know when something is serving them well or not and the inclination that comes with intuition if something seems off or not.
At some point, if you ever feel that something isn’t right to you, why not change it? Even if you aren’t aware of how to go about doing so.. research is plentiful and at your fingertips. Our best resources are in books, scholars, some peers, and often times within our own deepest selves. It’s in our best interests to observe patterns, environments, behaviors and sometimes even triggers that are taking you further away from where you would like to be and remove yourself physically or mentally from these spaces. Just because you’ve always done something one way, that doesn’t automatically make it right. Setting and adhering to boundaries within ourselves strengthen the self love and more importantly the SELF TRUST, allowing us to make better decisions and feel more confident with change. Boundaries can look like saying no when you want to, distancing yourself from certain relationships that don’t feel good to you, choosing not to engage in certain conversations, choosing to not partake in certain vices socially if you’re not comfortable and many other things. If your having a hard time with discipline in your eating habits, for example, you might decide to skip certain group celebrations that involve meals you usually craved.
While some of these things might seem simple, and others a bit more difficult, anything performed regularly enough turns into a habit and as I previously said, change starts somewhere. It is in our best interest to do what needs to be done to achieve a connection to our highest selves —whatever that means to you. We are a beautiful, majestic, divine people and deserve to believe it as well.
